Taxi, Limo Services Refuse To Pay New City Tax

Harris Limo

"To have a tax that's a per-person, per-trip fee? Trying to figure that out, for a lot of the companies that do that service, is going to be crazy." Most limo providers operate a handful of vehicles, if not a single vehicle, and do not have the administrative manpower or technology to keep track of specific details for every trip they make each month and then transmit it to the city, Fridinger said. Fridinger and others said many providers didn't even know about the tax until they received a letter from the city in mid-October informing them that they should have been tracking the information since Oct. 1. That's because the city has no idea who is a registered carrier and who isn't, relying on a dated list from the Maryland Public Service Commission when the reality is that new carriers are authorized constantly, coalition leaders said. Regina Davis, a PSC spokeswoman, said the commission estimates that three to six carriers go out of business each week and four to 10 new carriers are authorized.
visit,0,2105263.story

Witness: Defendant fired at Darrent Williams' limo

Daniel "Ponytail" Harris was on the stand for a second day Tuesday in Clark's trial on first-degree murder charges in the New Year's Day 2007 shooting. Harris says he was in an SUV with Clark when the shots were fired. On Monday, Harris also identified Clark as the shooter. Defense attorney Darren Cantor questioned Harris' motives, citing multiple plea deals he reached for his testimony. Cantor told Harris, "you have repeatedly tried to sell your story to the government." Harris responded that he was telling the truth. ___
visit

Limo services brace for heavy demand

(WISH photo / Jason Harris) Previous Next INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Super Bowl XLVI is putting pressure on local limo companies. The demand for the larger-than-life luxury vehicles has dozens of out-of state companies heading here. So you need to make sure you aren't taken for a ride before you go for a ride. "This particular vehicle holds up to 16 people," said Kristie Carter, owner of Indianapolis based Aadvanced Limousine, sitting in the back of a stretched out Hummer 2, perfect for a Super Bowl party on wheels. "As long as they keep it all back here and everyone's over 21 with proper ID, we're good," she said. It's one of 21 limos in the company's fleet. "On a normal day, a 10-hour package in this is probably going to run you $2,000 plus gratuity. For Super Bowl it's going to be closer to about $4,000 plus gratuity," she said. The demand on her fleet - and other fleet in the city - will greatly exceed supply.
visit
